The cards were not issued for sale but were handed out by local police officers and members of the Kiwanis Club to kids in the late 70's and early 80's. Very much alike the cards have no player stats or dates of any kind. Fans have had trouble trying to figure out which card belongs to which set. Four sets were released in the Dallas area and one set was released in Thousand Oaks California. Handed out in 1979, 1980, 2 card sets in 1981 and the last set was issued in 1983. All cards numbered by players jersey number with player name on the front of the card at the bottom.
The Thousand Oaks set is the easiest to Identify by turning the card over and reading the bottom of the card. The back of these cards reads Courtesy of the Thousand Oaks Kiwanis Club and Thousand Oaks Police Department. All the other sets read Courtesy of your area Kiwanis Club, Law Enforcement Agency. The Thousand Oaks set was released in 1981. |
Take a look at the logo on the right side of the players name on the front of the card. Two of the sets have the Light up a Life logo and the other 3 have the Kiwanis Club logo. The 1981 Thousand Oaks set and the 1979 set both have the Light up a Life logo. Simple process of elimination you can now date the 1981 Thousand Oaks set and the 1979 set. |

The 1983 set is the largest set produced and is has a couple of little differences from all the other sets. All the sets have the photographers name at the bottom of the photo on the front but the 1983 set shows •4 after the name. Also the set reads on the back inside the blue line Support your local Crimestoppers Program or Support Crimestoppers. Unfortunately the last two sets to identify are so much alike only difference between them are the players and are listed below. |
